final documentary cut

Hi all... here is the final documentary cut. I shortened the transitions, fixed the audio levels, zoomed in on the people a little more, and changed the clips in the last sequence around. The decision was also made to cut the opening clip because the video was too jumpy. The motion piece will play before this piece runs.

See you all tomorrow.

Recap from yesterday

Just updating with the status of yesterday's meeting with the CAM class. They got to see Katrina's video, and seemed happy with it... We couldn't really show the website (we were missing the background and didn't have the links set up apparently)... but they looked at the home page and sketches of the artist page that were on the blog. They didn't like the instruments in the illustrations, but liked the headphones and volume bars... also commented on the way the cable wraps around the container, maybe we can try a more organic line form or have it wrap behind the sharp corner... Not a huge priority but something to consider. We plan on presenting the final work tomorrow and arranging a date to teach Storm and a few others how to update the site. Let me know if anyone needs anything today. Thanks

another documentary rough

Hi guys... I have edited the color and levels, rearranged some footage, edited other footage and have been working on the transitions. Take a look and tell me what you think...

I know the transitions are about half a second too long right now...

Idea for background

I would plan to color in the images if it is approved

screen shots of website

So this is screen shots of what I have done so far. And on the template sketch there are placeholders in the orange and gray boxes on the right sidebar so the links are supposed to be at the bottom of each box not floating at the top.

Also... shoot today.

I have also talked to Storm about doing one last shoot today. This will be during the CAM class at 4pm. Does anyone want to come to help me get some video from the last shoot?

Rough Cuts.

I have uploaded my rough cuts to you tube so that you guys can take a look. I'm not sure if the videos will have processed by the beginning of class so I have also uploaded them to box.com

CD C4D

Hi all, I have uploaded a working C4d file to Box just in case you need it

Player options

http://www.wimpyplayer.com/products/wimpy_rave.html
This is a product that they would have to buy for $40, but we might be able to convince them. . . it plays video and audio and is completely skinable. Just a possibility if we were to gain the budget. It does have a demo version that we could play with to make sure it does what we want and to show anyone who would need to see it to approve a budget.

This site has the code for inserting Windows Media Player or Real Player on your site

So far that, and the other thing I posted are the best solutions I can find.

Blog

here is the blog as of now. It says it is completely customizable via css, but I haven't gotten into that part yet, I just tried to make it look like it was associated with CAM Records. I can design it later, but I wanted to go ahead and get it set up.

http://camrecords.lefora.com/

This forum does dictate that you link directly to their site rather than having it be a part of your own, although if you pay $14 dollars a month or something they will let you create your own domain name for it and basically do what you want with it. For free I think that this is the best option because we can at least make it look cohesive with the site, even if it has to be in a pop up.
Let me know what you think. We aren't committed to anything.
Liz I don't know what you have already found for the music player, but here is one that I thought we may be able to manipulate once we get the code opened up. I have class here soon, but I will look at it this evening:

Tech issues

I cannot get my board images to post. Blogger appears to be having problems again. I'll keep trying. I also have pdfs assembled that we can look at in class if I can't get this to work in the next few. Has anyone figured out why blogger wont let you upload some images?

no word on speakeasy tiger yet

Hadn't heard from the girl Meaghan about Monday yet, but got this from Storm today...

"Hi Erin, I ran into Lauren Gale from Speakeasy Tiger at Monolith (they were playing the festival) and she still hadn't been able to talk to the band about the video meeting (I guess playing Red Rocks might have taken priority) so I don't know if you'll hear from Meaghan or not about Monday. On the other hand, the band leaves on tour on Tues., so if they can't make it to campus on Mon. it might be a few weeks."

It would be great if we can get them tomorrow, but I'm not banking on it. I will get Meaghan's email from Storm and ask her about opportunities of filming/interview other bands in the meantime. Just letting everyone know.

Written shot list.

Hi all. This is the shot list that I currently have planned out. It will be combined with the storyboards and re-posted tomorrow. Let me know what you think and let me know if you have any comments, concerns, or suggestions.
------------------------------

Documentary shot list

The documentary will be headed up by the short motion graphics piece/ logo animation.

The screen fades from black to normal color.
Scene 1 occurs indoors (preferably in a classroom or lab in the UC Denver Building 8th floor) Visual elements. Camera1 zooms from a view of the outside city and focuses on person number 1.

Shot specifications: Camera 1 direct frontal view. Person being interviewed takes up the majority of the the shot. Person 1 is centered and is the main camera focus taking up the majority of the frame. Camera 2 is positioned at a 3/4 view. Several students should be positioned behind the main person being interviewed... these individuals should be working on different projects.

Shot 2: switch to 3/4 view to focus on working students.

Shot 3: cut to second interview. 2nd person should be the main focus and take up the majority of the screen but will be positioned to the left of the screen to the center of the shot.

Cut to scene 4: shot 4 will be shot outdoors. This interview follows the same specifications as shot 3 but the person will take up the right side of the screen.
As this person is talking. The audio continues but the visuals change to show different cam students doing different jobs this section will also include visuals of the equipment that is used by CAM records.

Scene 5: Scene 5 utilizes multiple camera angles and is a combination of students responding to 1 question. This scene will be heavily edited as excerpts from each students response to the question is cut out and reassembled so 1 cohesive story about the identity and contributions of CAM records can be made. The shots in this scene are very personal (full face)

Scene 6 operates much like scene 5 but with a different question and a few additional visual elements including shots showing the use of technology. Students in these shots will be shown working. This helps to reinforce that attitude that CAM Records is ACTIVE. (this scene differs from scene 4 in that it is more fast paced and contains audio from multiple interviews)

additional scenes? If bands are available to shoot we will also conduct interviews with them. These interviews will be placed between scenes 4 and 5.

*additional notes-- we have multiple cameras available so i would like to place them at different angles during scenes 5 and 6 and we can pick the best angles to edit into the documentary. These scenes are going to be the ones with the most variation in placement.

rescheduling

Hopefully everyone got my last email yesterday about needing to reschedule. Apparently Storm needs to be somewhere by 3 today. I know Liz was going to try and get in touch with Katrina to see if she could get something from their meeting today, but I am assuming we didn't work anything new out. Please let me know if Monday works for everyone to reschedule a shoot. I bet if we ask nicely Storm will let us take the class somewhere for a few minutes to get the classroom spot and a few interviews. Meghan from the CAM class is supposed to be contacting me this weekend with details about the meeting on Monday with Speakeasy Tiger... I will let everyone know when I hear from her.

Thursday, September 10, 2009

oh yea...

meet in front of the art bldg. (on the library side in front of the wide staircase) at 3 tomorrow if you can be there.

Update from Wed 9/9

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to make sure we all know the choices the class made yesterday... We will be going with Liz's logo concept and they picked the corresponding sketch with the grey and yellow (diagonal grid). We will be meeting with Storm and a group of students tomorrow Friday 9/11 at 3 pm. Also on Monday anyone that can be there around 1 pm we are meeting with Speakeasy Tiger before they leave for tour on Tuesday. I am in class but Tanya said she can be there for sure, so I am going to schedule it with Storm. I will post an update next time I hear a confirmation from Storm about everything tomorrow and Monday.

Colorado Music Scene Site

When we originally met with Storm we discussed the possibility of starting a website for the music scene in colorado. I put together this mockup. I thought we could possibly set up a blog of some sort that would be easy to manage with a calendar and a few pages (like wordpress). I don't mind heading this operation, and showing Storm how to keep it up to date. If anyone wants to contribute ideas of layout and aesthetics I am open to that.

OUTLINE/DESIGN BRIEF

posters

So I could not get blogger to work yesterday for the life of me so I emailed you all my stuff through blackboard. Today I asked Liz if she had recieved the email and she said she had not, so I am not sure what happened. Here are the poster designs I emailed, I still can not get the other logos I made to load so I will try to email them to all of your normal email accounts.
